Ran 14 today, the weather was perfect, 45-50 degrees. Felt pretty good, ran 2 miles to start with holly, was able to pick up the pace pretty well for the rest of the run.

12 mile run

Ran 12 miles this afternoon. Weather was just above freezing. Held a decent pace, a little further than I planned on going, am feeling pretty tired and sore now.

Did 10 miles on Saturday. It went well enough, a little cold out, a little windy, good to get the run in.

Karen, good job on your 5 miles, on a good pace for doing the half, 16 weeks out, you will be fine. Good for Kevin getting in a run.

My wheezing was not too bad. hopefully it is getting better.

I can start swimming next saturday, looking forward to that again.

First long run of 09

Today I did a medium long run, first one for 2009. I ran 8 miles at a pretty comfortable pace. The weather was a little cold, 38 degrees but it was sunny and not very windy. I read yesterday to take 2000mg of vitamin C to prevent wheezing which I have been having a problem with, I think the vitamin C helped but it also messed up my stomach, guess to get something you have to give something. Trying to build a base to decide if I will train for a marathon in April, we will see how it goes.

Happy New Years

Happy New Years - Time to start a training program. If you want to start training for the marathon relay now is a great time to start. Dont start too quickly, start off with mixing up walking and running together, run enough to get your heart rate going but start walking before you get too tired, walk for a minute or two and then start jogging again. Eventually the walk times will decrease as your running endurance builds.

Starting a Training Program

Its important to have goals that are realistic to the amount of time you can dedicate to training. In preparing for the OKC Memorial Marathon Event, ensure you have a base that is strong enough for the distance you intend to run. The schedule I have posted is basic, it is enough to prepare you for the event but probably will not be setting any record times. Dont overdo it when starting out and dont wait until the last month to try to get ready, it needs to be a gradual build up to the event.
